System status

This is now done automatically

We will try to update this page when we have major user-visible problems in any of our systems, and to keep a log of maintenance and incidents.

Notice

We just implemented the automatic status page and therefore we might encounter some issues.

Ongoing issues

  • The MUSICA site in Linz is currently down for the forseeable future - there are major cooling problems which need to be mitigated by external contractors.
  • Login to login01 is possible and data from HOME and DATA can be retrieved. SCRATCH is not available.

Future planned maintenance

  • Due to major infrastructure work at the Arsenal Datacenter, there will be a complete power shutdown on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
    As a result, we must implement a full maintenance window starting from Thursday, July 30, until Friday, August 7, 2026.

  • During this period, all systems - VSC-4, VSC-5, MUSICA (including the sites in Innsbruck and Linz), GUI nodes, all storage facilities, and our administrative infrastructure - will be completely shut down. No access will be possible, and no jobs can be submitted or run during the downtime, but pending jobs will remain in the queue and can execute once services are available again.

  • Furthermore, among others, in particular the following web services will not be available:

support.asc.ac.at
jupyterhub.asc.ac.at

  • Note that ticket requests cannot be received and handled during the downtime.

  • Please plan your workflows and project deadlines accordingly to avoid disruption, as running jobs will be terminated before the shutdown.

Recently resolved problems and planned maintenance

  • 2026-05-05 16:00:00 to 2026-06-05 13:00:00 MUSICA Linz is unavailable due to a cooling failure.
  • 2026-04-30 08:00:00 to 2026-04-30 16:30:00 A critical vulnerability in all Linux distributions has been disocvered. To prevent any further possible damage and to apply all needed measures login was deactivated to all of our systems. This includes VSC4, VSC5 and MUSICA at all three sites.
  • 2026-04-12 to 2026-04-16 A broken switched caused all central services to collapse, preventing access to any of our clusters or services.
  • 2026-03-02 08:00 to 2026-03-05 12:00 planned downtime of MUSICA
  • 2025-21-11 15:20 to 15:58 CEST VSC4 login problems. Routes to ESS nodes were missing.
  • 2025-18-11 11:00 to 23:50 CEST VSC4 was down. Due to a broken down deployment node, all VSC4 compute nodes became unavailable.
  • 2025-11-10 13:00 to 2025-11-11 16:00 CEST: GPFS filesystem maintenance. Extended to 2025-11-12 16:15 CEST due to a persistent error.
  • 2025-10-24 to 2025-10-26: Network issues forced us to take VSC-4 down to ensure the function of VSC-5.
  • 2025-10-17 from 14:20 to 15:10 CEST: Login problems, slow/unable to login VSC5.
  • 2025-10-16 from 13:45 to 14:50 CEST: Login problems, unable to login into VSC4 and VSC5.
