Software policy¶
Installation¶
ASC will install and maintain software centrally if it will be useful for many users. If you want to install a certain software package and require assistance, please open a support ticket containing details of the request.
Users are allowed to install software in their home or project directory. Some licensed software has special requirements, if unsure please consult the software licensing page.
ASC will provide a reasonable amount of help for user software installations. Submit a support ticket if you encounter problems that you cannot solve yourself.
Software is provided via cyclic releases. In every new release we provide the latest stable version of applications. Older versions are available via the previous releases. Newer versions will become available in the next cycle release. Newer software versions for the upcoming release are often tested in experimental trees first. We are working on providing access to these trees for adventurous users who want to work with the latest software.
The software stack based on EESSI uses archspec to detect the architecture that it is running on. It is only possible to view software that has been compiled for the underlying hardwaree. For instance there will be no gpu software available on CPU nodes.
We do not install Python or R packages centrally. Users can install python and R packages via virtual environments.
