Software installation policy

ASC will install and maintain software centrally if it will be useful for many users. If you would like ASC to install a certain software package, please contact the ASC support team.

Users are allowed to install software in their home or project directory. In the case of licensed software check the software licensing page.

ASC will provide a reasonable amount of help for user software installations. Submit a support ticket if you encounter problems that you cannot solve yourself.

We do not install Python or R packages centrally. Users can install python and R packages via virtual environments.

Software is provided via cyclic releases. In every new release we provide the latest stable version of applications. Older versions are available via the previous releases. Newer versions will become available in the next cycle release. Newer software versions for the upcoming release are available in the dev/staging tree.

A software package/tree becomes obsolete after 3 years, which means it has to be loaded via a profile.

A software package/tree will be removed when the corresponding hardware reaches its end life.
